Dear John

Dear John,

Why did you pick some of the wildest things that Jesus said to write about?

John sure picked some of the most radical sayings of Jesus to write about.  One such saying happened when Jesus met the woman at the well.

John 4:13-14 NIV

  • 13.Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14. but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Since I have thought about that encounter for the last few weeks and then heard a radio preacher talk about it today I figured this would be a great time to finally blog about it.  After verse 14 Jesus goes on to read this lady’s mail.  Her past and present relationships are laid bare before her.  He offers to provide for her something we are all in search of, completeness.  I’ll complete you, if you let me.

Her past relationships couldn’t do it, but Jesus could.  Whatever will complete you, Jesus is offering.  Are your relationships leaving you empty?   He won’t abandon you.  Are you struggling to make ends meet?  He will provide for you.  Are you sick?  He is the Great physician.  Whatever the blank is, He will fill it in.  You have to let Him.  You have to let Him do it His way.  The question is, will you?  It’s probably not going to happen the way you think is best.  You won’t receive instant gratification here.  You may need more than prayer to meet the challenge.  You may need the help of others to complete the journey.
