Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) approves change in ordination standard
This is an example of where we cannot stand in unity with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The following comes straight from their website.
While the Office of the General Assembly awaits official tallies, it appears that a majority of the 173 presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) have approved a change in PC(USA) ordination standards.
At its meeting on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, the Presbytery of Twin Cities Area became the 87th presbytery to approve an amendment that will remove the constitutional requirement that all ministers, elders, and deacons live in “fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman or chastity in singleness” (G-6.0106b in the church’s Book of Order).
There is a saying in the church community. “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity”. This is one of those occasions in which an essential has been broken. They claim ‘submission to the lordship of jesus christ’ replaces ‘fidelity and chastity’ . They are wrong. Submission to the lordship of Jesus Christ includes fidelity and chastity.
If you read their statement you find that not only will they now allow homosexuals to be ordained, they also ordain singles who engage in sexual behavior. Next they will be passing out condoms in youth meetings. What does this say to the world? Now the so-called church claims there are many ways to God. Hopefully we will see many of these churches break away from this wayward denomination.
