Thoughts On The Holy Week (Good Friday)

It’s Good Friday of Holy Week. The cross is central. We find ourselves thinking about Jesus’ willingness to die for our sins. He had stated earlier ‘greater love has no man than this that he would lay down his life for them’; now this day underlines His statement in a way nothing else could. It isn’t simply His death it’s the fact that His death pays for all our sin. All.

Take time today to thank Him for His willingness to take your place, to pay your price, to cover us with His amazing grace. He is worthy! And while you are praying ask Him to be with us in His power and presence this weekend that many will hear and understand how His death and resurrection makes the gift of eternal life possible for them.

Matthew 27:46 (NIV) About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Luke 23:34 (NIV) Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Luke 23:43 (NIV) Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

John 19:30 (NIV) When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Luke 23:46 (NIV) Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
